Jose Huizar, Los Angeles City Councilman for District 1
Jose Huizar is a member of the Los Angeles City Council representing District 14, re-elected in 2011 for his second full term. Councilman Huizar's leadership reflects improvements in access to higher education for all students in the Los Angeles Unified School District, the Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension linking East L.A. to Downtown, and an ambitious initiative to renovate the historic Broadway corridor with plans to restore theaters and the treasured streetcar. Last year, Council Huizar launched his "new York" Vision Plan, a community driven project to bring short-term and long-term improvements in Highland Park between Avenue 50 and Avenue 56 on York Boulevard. Councilman Huizar discusses the active involvement of the Highland Park community in civic planning and the importance of the York Boulevard corridor for "Reinterpreting Highland Park."
