Departures is KCET's hyper-local web documentary, community engagement tool and digital literacy program about the cultural history of Los Angeles' neighborhoods.
Kim Walters, Director of the Braun Research Library at the Autry National Center
Kim Walters is the director of the Braun Research Library at the Autry National Center and the interim Director of the Southwest Museum. For 20 years, Walters has worked with Native American communities forming important relationships that enrich her understanding of the Autry's collection and identify culturally sensitive items. Many items originated with Charles F. Lummis' collection obtained through the same methods relationship building, which the Autry now owns. Kim shared items from Lummis' collection of Native American and Mexican artifacts along with history of Lummis himself and his formation of the Southwest Museum--also owned by the Autry.
