Ximena Gil is a teacher naturalist and spokesperson for the Audubon Center at Debs Parks. Growing up near Debs Park, Gil developed a strong connection with the nature abundant in the hills surrounding her neighborhood. After discovering the Center she became a frequent visitor and at the early age of fifteen began volunteering, soon becoming a part-time employee. Today she coordinates the educational and community outreach programs that reach out into the community and provide opportunities for residents to explore the nature in their own back yard. Gil provides Departures with details of the Audubon Center's educational programs and community outreach efforts for the "Reinterpreting Highland Park" chapter.
