Yim Tam - Teacher, Benjamin Franklin High School

Yim Tam has lived and worked in Highland Park for most of her life and has become a community resource for those interested in the community's rich history and culture. After arriving in Highland park, Tam found herself one of the few Asian students at her school, including at Benjamin Franklin High School in the early 1990s. Now as a social studies teacher at Franklin's Arroyo Seco Academy, her early experiences as a minority and outsider informs her work and dedication to her students. Tam shares some of those experiences with Departures and provides insight on Benjamin Franklin High School's demographics, its connection to the larger community, and the diverse population of students she teaches.
