Los Angeles, A Corrido by Erendira Hernandez

Erendira Hernandez - Los Angeles

Different worlds uniting into one.
The beauty of the trees,
the way they rock to the wind.
The big buildings sit,
as every being sings.
Different worlds in one city.
As everyone loves, we hate as well.

Different worlds uniting into one.
The beaches scream,
don't trash on me.
The hills are far,
but cry in pain.
Different worlds in one city.
As everyone plays, we fight in vain.

Different worlds uniting into one city.
The businesses are rich,
they don't want to spare some change.
The homeless slide,
from place to place.
We are all different in that way.
Different worlds in one city.
Show off your money, the bigger star you are.

We are a different city.
We love, we hate, we play, and we fight as well.
Live with stars and games. We are the city of L.A.

Youth Voices' Student Producer Erendira Hernandez (pictured above) wrote "Los Angeles" for the LACMA/OZOMATLI initiative THE CORRIDO OF LA, a celebration of Mexican Independence Day at LACMA on January 21st, 2011.
