Leimert Park - Education Notes
The Education Notes blog helps to mediate between the plan designed for each installment of Youth Voices and the reality of the classroom. By reflecting on the weekly workshops from the educator's perspective, we are able to write and share about the process of the project, and how it relates to larger social and educational issues.
We invite you to follow Departures Youth Voices as we work closely with students and community members to explore Leimert Park.

Leimert Park:
The students asked questions regarding the origins and history of Leimert Park as well as when and why African Americans began to identify it as both a residential and cultural home.
Leimert Park:
Does practice make perfect? Well it certainly makes most activities easier and more comfortable. That was the main objective during the Youth Voices media workshop focused on video production and interview strategies.
Leimert Park:
It was time for the students to re-frame their thinking and explore how they can translate their ideas into the visual language of photography and video.
Leimert Park:
What are the people, places and things that make up your neighborhood? For the Leimert Park student producers it's the places that nurture their creativity, connect them to their cultural roots and make them wonder what if.
Leimert Park:
Departures Youth Voices is collaborating with a strong group of young people and arts organizations deeply connected to the rich energy and history of Leimert Park.
