Judy Baca
As part of the production process, Venice High School students took a field trip to SPARC. They were fortunate to have the opportunity to interview artist and founder, Judy Baca, who shared how she became interested in painting as a young child. When Baca entered Kindergarten, she could not speak or understand English - the only language that was used in her classroom. She would paint while her peers read; for Baca, painting was her way of interpreting the outside world.
