Once the brainstorming process completes, the pens, paper, and maps are put away, and it's time to go out and capture the people and places around the neighborhood. It's time for students to look at where the process has brought them, looking at all of the ideas that they developed, and then eliminate the ones that are not essential. For the My Neighborhood and Me project, students list 15 people/places but only capture 4 of them which get uploaded to the collaborative map and used in their murals.
In Venice, students went to out their personal places and captured them with video, photography, and sound. They filmed video interviews, portraits, snapped pictures, and recorded soundscapes.
Below, is a short video that shows what the production looks like with the students from Venice High School's New Media Academy.
