Community Connections: Meet Chloé Garcia

WELA YMCA Youth Institute, is part of the Building Healthy Communities (BHC) initiative funded by The California Endowment.Youth are exploring and investigating how the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) can empower and improve their local school communities.


What grade are you in and what school do you go to?
I am in the 9th grade and I go to Environmental Science and Technology High School. (ESAT)

What's the most important thing to know about you?
I am a very artsy person and I am very passionate about my interests.

What neighborhood do you call home?
I live in Boyle Heights.

Where is the first and last place you would take a new visitor in your neighborhood?
The first place I would take a newcomer is Mariachi Plaza and the last place would probably be the local parks.

What object connects you to your neighborhood? How does it link you to your community?
The object that connects me to my neighborhood is my guitar. It connects me to my musical background in my family and the Mariachi Plaza because, that is a place where I feel at home due to the live music and art that is featured there.
