WELA YMCA Youth Institute, is part of the Building Healthy Communities (BHC) initiative funded by The California Endowment.Youth are exploring and investigating how the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) can empower and improve their local school communities.


What grade are you in and what school do you go to?
I am a junior attending Theodore Roosevelt Senior High School.

What's the most important thing to know about you?
I love cameras and dark humor.

What neighborhood do you call home?
Boyle Heights/East Los Angeles Border.

Where is the first and last place you would take a new visitor in your neighborhood?
First: The Weingart East LA YMCA, Arctic Hotspot, and Starbucks in Little Tokyo.

What object connects you to your neighborhood? How does it link you to your community?
My watch connects me to my community because with it I can tell time. It reminds me of how my community needs better education, because I didn't know how to read an analog watch until I entered high school.
