WELA YMCA Youth Institute, is part of the Building Healthy Communities (BHC) initiative funded by The California Endowment.Youth are exploring and investigating how the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) can empower and improve their local school communities.


What grade are you in and what school do you go to?
I am in 11th grade and I attend Garfield High School

What's the most important thing to know about you?
I love to hang out with family and friends, I also like to play baseball and football.

What neighborhood do you call home?
I call East Los Angeles home.

Where is the first and last place you would take a new visitor in your neighborhood?
The first place I would take a visitor to would be Garfield H.S. The last place I would take a visitor would be the commerce movie theater.

What object connects you to your neighborhood? How does it link you to your community?
One object that connects me to my neighborhood would be a taco because it symbolizes the culture in my community.
