Community Connections: Meet Erick Flores

WELA YMCA Youth Institute, is part of the Building Healthy Communities (BHC) initiative funded by The California Endowment.Youth are exploring and investigating how the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) can empower and improve their local school communities.


What grade are you in and what school do you go to?
I'm in 11th grade and I go to Garfield High School.

What's the most important thing to know about you?
That I am dedicated and motivated.

What neighborhood do you call home?
The neighborhood I call home is East L.A.

Where is the first and last place you would take a new visitor in your neighborhood?
The first place I would take a new visitor would be El Mercadito. The last place would be indecent looking places in the night.

What object connects you to your neighborhood? How does it link you to your community?
The object that connects me to my neighborhood is my skateboard, because in my community there are a lot of people that skate and there is even a skate park.
