Keeping Kids Safe

A father figure to manyPAZITIVE INFLUENCE: Sergio Paz runs a drop-in center for at risk youth in Lennox Park, just a stone's throw from LAX. Having grown up in Lennox, Paz knows firsthand that the community needs a place to keep kids safe from becoming involved in the rampant gang activity of the area. Though he doesn't have children of his own, he feels like a father to many kids who lack consistent male role models at home. And like a parent, he does this good work without pay. Christian, 17, makes Sergio's place one of his first stops after getting out of probation camp this same day. He and others see Sergio's center as a second home where they can go for advice, safety, and to be reassured that there is someone who cares about them and understands what they are going through -- no matter what kind of trouble they get into.
