Janice Kamenir-Reznik is a 2013 Local Heroes Honoree for Jewish American Heritage Month.
"Over the past year, I have travelled twice to the Democratic Republic of Congo and to the Darfuri refugee camps as well.
"In the Darfuri camps, I was able to witness the dramatic growth of our JWW Solar Cooker Project which we started as a rape prevention measure almost a decade ago. As of this year, we are serving more than 100,000 Darfuri refugees.
"In Congo, I was able to witness the incredible emotional growth and educational development of a large group of liberated child soldiers and sex slaves whom we serve in Eastern Congo. I was most excited to see the land which we helped to purchase to build a new home for a group of 50 former sex slaves and the scores of babies of rape whom they are now raising. With the new facility these young mothers will be able to nurture themselves back to health and to raise their babies without fear of rape and abduction.
"It was a thrilling year for me and for Jewish World Watch"
