Fall Colors and Snow-Capped Mountains in Mammoth

Earlier this week, as a winter storm approached, John Urdi of Mammoth Lakes Tourism predicted a weekend of beautiful fall colors juxtaposed against snow-capped mountains. Looks like that's going to happen. After 19 inches landed on Mammoth Mountain, Urdi today said it's starting to warm up causing snow to melt at ground level while likely leaving mountain tops covered in snow.
Proof?
The above photo taken Thursday of Rock Creek Canyon, south of Mammoth Lakes. "Expect the colors to be glorious this weekend with snow on peaks and the snow melted to reveal the color," noted John Poimiroo of the California Fall Color blog about the area. His blog tracks the fall seasonal changes, proving that California does, in fact, have four seasons. For more snow and fall color photos, check out his recent post.

For the Record: An earlier version of this post said Rock Creek Lake was north of Mammoth Lakes. It is actually south.
