The Time to See Fall Color in Los Angeles is Now

If the seasonal Santa Ana winds are light, the leaves in Southern California stick around a little longer. And so far this year, that's working to your advantage when it comes to finding fall color in the Los Angeles region.
One of the best places is the county-run Arboretum. Frank McDonough, their botanical information consultant, has been keeping John Poimiroo at the California Fall Color blog up to date. This weekend, the colors were nearing peak, between 50% and 75% (more photos from this weekend can be seen here). Poimiroo told KCET last month that The Arboretum is one of the best spots in the L.A. area for leaf peepers (Read: The 7 Best Spots for Fall Color in California).
Another great spot is Franklin Canyon near Beverly Hills. You won't get intense reds and oranges, but Lake Drive on the southern end of the park makes for an amazing walk this time of year. A couple photos I took yesterday:

I work at USC and there are some really beautiful Japanese maples with leaves turning right now (and other trees too). I took some photos today, but didn't know if there was a way to link them here.
