As we get ready to celebrate the holidays with our families and loved ones, KCET wanted to reflect on some of the ways we've been "rethinking TV" to create different, more meaningful giving experiences.
From new entertainment packages to philanthropic endeavors, we've transformed our pledge process to better serve our viewers. For example, this year we've collaborated with Southland charitible organizations to air special programs that addressed specific societal issues. These shows have focused on unique programming that helped illustrate both the challenges surrounding these causes and the progress being made to address them.
For example, when the earthquake and tsunami devastated Japan, KCET applied to the FCC for a special waiver to hold a night of fundraising where all monies raised - $105,000 - were donated to the victims. We were able to air astonishing coverage of the disaster from our Japanese public media partner NHK to remind viewers how catastrophic the tragedy was to the region.
Some other issues we've brought to the forefront this year have included domestic violence and animal cruelty prevention, living and working with disabilities, and homelessness.
We need your help, though, to identify meaningful and worthy partners. Use the form below to suggest community partners for KCET's pledge initiatives. While we can't guarantee your specific organization will be featured in an upcoming segment, we can assure you we will consider each and every suggestion.
Thank you again for sharing your compassion with KCET and giving underserved members of our community something to be thankful for this season, and all year round.
