Not only is the high desert city of Victorville facing a Securities and Exchange Commission probe, an independent auditor last week doubted the city's "ability to continue" amid $480 million in debt and concern about tens of millions of dollars...
Commentary:
There can be no more dramatic rebuke of the ambition to dominate Mother Earth than the ruined lives, crumpled infrastructure, and flattened communities along Japan's northeastern coast.
Desert, Folk Art, Love: A Visit to Salvation Mountain

Just east of the Salton Sea near the town of Niland, Calif. is the famous desert dwelling of Leonard Knight. There, at the entrance of the so-called Slab City, is the 50-foot tall Salvation Mountain, a 30-year (and continuing) labor of love that spans 150 feet in length.
