New Mexico to Southern California: The Old Spanish Trail, Explained

In 1829, an intrepid merchant opened a long-desired trade route--known today as the Old Spanish Trail--between the Mexican provinces of Alta California and New Mexico, linking Los Angeles with Santa Fe. From June 2-5, historians, archivists, and representatives from government agencies and the Hispanic and Native American communities will gather in Pomona at the 2011 Old Spanish Trail Association annual conference to explore the history of the trail in California.
Commentary:
Los Angeles is an emptier place without renaissance man Cliff Hall in it. But being out in the Inland Empire is better than being nowhere--sometimes.
