Coachella Music Festival in Limbo as City of Indio Delays Signing Contract

Commentary:
The City of Indio is holding off on signing a long-term contract with the promoter of the long-running Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival after the adjacent city of La Quinta asked for environmental review of the six-day festival.

Commentary:
Labor unions and those sympathetic to their cause typically turn out in much larger numbers for November elections, as compared to June elections. A pending ballot measure, which likely would have appeared on the June 2012 ballot, restricts the ability of labor unions to raise campaign funds from members.

This week's media arts scene features the beginning of several large events, including Filmforum's 24-show screening series dedicated to experimental filmmaking in Los Angeles, as well as UCLA's excellent series, LA Rebellion: Creating a New Black Cinema.
Commentary:
Debuting this week is a new television series called "American Horror Story." The premise is simple: family moves into haunted mansion. The family is your typically cast prime time show, all white. If Asians had been cast, it would be a completely different show altogether.
