High winds are expected to hit the region, just a few days after a severe Santa Ana wind event caused damage and blackouts throughout Southern California. The National Weather Service is warning that more winds, although not as strong, are expected to begin early Monday morning.
A wind warning (gusts up to 65 mph) will begin at 3 a.m. in the Santa Clarita Valley and across L.A. County mountain ranges, including the Santa Monica Mountains. Wind advisories are set for 6 a.m. in Ventura County valleys, as well as the San Fernando Valley (gusts up 50 mph winds and below); and at 9 a.m. in coastal areas of Ventura and L.A. counties, and reaching across the L.A. basin as far as Hollywood (wind gusts up to 45 mph).
"The winds will diminish some during the afternoon and evening on Monday, but the winds will likely redevelop late Monday night and continue through Tuesday," the Weather Service said in a statement.
Because the conditions increase the fire danger, constituting a red flag warning, the L.A. County Fire Department has deployed forces throughout the region.
Additionally, wind gusts up to 60 mph are expected in the San Bernardino and Santa Ana mountains and the Inland Empire. Gusts up to 50 mph could hit mountains in San Diego and Riverside counties, as well San Diego County valleys, Orange County coastal areas and the Coachella Valley.
