We know many of you have questions about KCET's transition to an independent nonprofit television station. While some of the answers are evolving, we do have responses to some basic questions.

On January 1, 2011, KCET will become the largest public television station in the United States, independent of PBS. Rather than a defeat, this decision is an act of financial prudence, courage and confidence in our community. KCET will be financially stronger and in a position to rethink what public media can be in Southern California.

Over the coming weeks and months, we'll be sharing articles and links that shed light on the many changes KCET is undergoing.

KCET's 40 year relationship with PBS has been rewarding on many levels. PBS has provided an abundant library of quality programs to our viewers in Southern California to which we have contributed through the production of award winning programs in education, public affairs, drama, and the arts. While we share this rich and satisfying history, it appears that the time has come to acknowledge that this relationship no longer works.
