Northeast L.A. covers many neighborhoods and many experiences. See how students from three local high schools see, experience, and understand their communities through a multimedia journey.

The places, people, and objects of interest marked on their maps, collectively begin to form the student's narrative of their community.

Student producers from the L.A. River School continue their exploration of the places and people that make up the Northeast Los Angeles Riverfront district.

Students explored, conducted interviews, and took photos of the places and people that capture the many layers of Elysian Valley.

Sometimes a walk can be much more than just a walk. It can be an opportunity to see a street in a different way, with a different eye and ask questions of what, why and how.

Field work provides the Youth Voices student producers with an opportunity to practice the technical and creative ideas they have been exploring in the media workshops.

As the student producers move from the personal to the collaborative phase of Youth Voices, new sets of complex relationships and stories begin to emerge.

Maps have not always been simple representations of reality but a tool used to conceptualize and organize space. This is true for the Youth Voices producers who focused on their personal experiences, memories and relationships to create their community maps.

With art, creativity and support, students are able to harness new opportunities and see a new future for themselves.

How do young people see Los Angeles? In this video, students from The HeArt Project share their point of view through a multi-media exhibit -- Mapping the Metropolis: Finding the Heart of Our City.

Students produced their first multimedia project explaining who they are, what they feel and what they believe. The "Meet Me" exercise explores the student's personal, social and geographical connections, while introducing them to visual storytelling.
