LAUSD Schools Making Gains, But Still Behind State Average
Test scores are up across the Los Angeles Unified School District. LAUSD schools scored 19 points higher on the statewide Academic Performance Index (API) for the 2010-2011 school year, the Los Angeles Times reported.
District schools scored an average of 728 points out of a possible 1,000, but they still failed to reach the state goal of 800 and fell below the state average score of 778.
LAUSD Superintendent John Deasy told City News Service that "these scores reflect the incredible strides that are being made at so many of our schools. Despite crippling budget cuts, teachers, administrators, parents and students are continuing their extraordinary commitment to success in the classroom."
While marked improvements were seen at many schools, the district also failed to meet federal growth targets in math and English.
Balboa Gifted/High Ability Magnet School scored the highest at 978.
More information on the API scores and rankings can be found on the LAUSD website.
