KCETLink is the national independent public transmedia organization formed by the merger between KCET and LINK Media, with employees spread throughout offices in Burbank, San Francisco, and New York. KCETLink is dedicated to educating and inspiring by providing unique and valuable programs and services to diverse communities. 
The Executive Director, Individual Giving reports to KCETLink's Chief Development Officer ; it is a senior Development position responsible for initiating, implementing, overseeing and managing an effective individual gift strategy focused on increasing individual giving, comprised of membership, major gifts and planned giving. This involves developing, planning, managing and implementing strategies to achieve these goals, as well as, cultivating, soliciting and closing major and planned gifts.
The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to effectively solicit and steward major and planned gift prospects, and have the ability to quickly understand and articulate the needs and aspirations of KCETLink. Working closely with key senior staff, the Executive Director, Individual Giving will demonstrate the energy, drive and enthusiasm to motivate community leaders and potential donors to support KCETLink with their participation and support. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to solve problems creatively and to recognize and seize opportunities quickly.
  • Develop, implement and manage, on an ongoing basis, an effective major gifts strategy and program, including all activities related to the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual major gift donors and prospects. 
  • Oversee day-to-day management responsibilities (i.e. hire, train and manage) for the Individual Giving department. Provide leadership and direction to staff members. 
  • Oversee and manage the following areas: Membership, Major Gifts and Planned Giving. 
  • Oversee and manage the "Moves Management" system to ensure that KCETLink is coordinating relationship building activities that result in the improvement of fundraising results.
  • Create and implement an institution-wide comprehensive stewardship program. 
  • Work in concert with the Executive Director, Special Events to maximize all fundraising opportunities. 
  • Personally build and manage a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects.  
  • Create and maintain appropriate donor tracking and activity monitoring tools to ensure that cultivation and solicitation strategies are successfully implemented and that the goals are achieved. 
  • Routinely provide status reports and updates to the Chief Development Officer on the results achieved and suggesting alternative strategies to achieve results, when needed. 
  • Develop a strategy and implementation program to significantly expand the prospect pool utilizing effective donor identification and acquisition techniques. 
  • Undertake regular contact with KCETLink programming associates, digital associates and senior executives for donor cultivation and solicitation. 
  • Develop donor letters, proposals and acknowledgements.         
  • Generate reports and/or queries as needed. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned (for KCETLink, KCET and LinkTV). 
  • Must have 8 or more years of successful fundraising experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership/management role. This experience should include demonstrated effectiveness/results in major gift prospecting, cultivation, solicitation and gift closure; and, in development and writing of marketing materials. 
  • Must have strong leadership skills with a track record of "leading by example," managing and coaching other staff toward successful performance. Must be a driven and goal-oriented professional, who is able to keep seemingly diverse projects moving forward within a consistent strategic framework. 
  • Must be able to delegate appropriately, with an appreciation for the individual abilities of a diverse staff. The successful candidate should demonstrate respect and trust in all interactions with leadership, staff, and other stakeholders. 
  • Must be a strategic thinker, planner, and visionary with the ability to see beyond the present and immediate future to help the department see the "big picture" and achieve long-term goals. 
  • Must possess exceptional interpersonal skills, with a warm, engaging and highly disciplined work style; must possess the ability to work independently and as a team player. 
  • Must be extremely well organized with attention to detail and a high level of accuracy, blended with a high degree of creativity with regard to fundraising initiatives. Must be able to develop and implement clear goals, systems and priorities. 
  • Must be computer literate (Internet/web resources/e-mail) with excellent PC skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database management; must be proficient with relational databases (i.e. Raiser's Edge).  
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to work in diverse environments. 
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders: the general public, donors, community leaders, board members, senior leaders and staff members of all backgrounds; must be able to articulate KCETLink's strategy and programs in a clear and concise manner, presenting them in a compelling narrative targeted at major donors.  
  • Must possess the ability to personally build, develop, and retain strong, positive relationships with major donors, community leaders, board members, and other constituents. 
  • Must be courteous, polite, and an astute, tactful listener. Must be able to deal effectively with difficult and/or irate donors, community members, leaders and prospects. 
  • Must possess a strong sense of ethics and the ability to practice discretion in handling sensitive and/or confidential information. 
  • The demonstrated experience working with media, international issues a plus.  
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent required; Masters or above preferred.

The position is located in Burbank, with periodic travel to other locations.
