At Home Learning: PBS SoCal | KCET, in partnership with LAUSD and in collaboration with California PBS stations, are offering broadcast programming with digital resources that adhere to California’s state curriculum. Below are digital resources you can access to continue learning at home.

This week, counting is one of the math concepts explored in our programming. In "

Curious George: Color me Monkey/ Special Delivery Monkey," George seems to be confused about how to count while playing George's favorite game after an afternoon lunch.

To continue learning about the educational concept of counting, check out these resources:

Counting by 10's - 'Peg + Cat' | PBS KIDS Lab

With this video, children count along with Peg, Cat, and friends as they collect and count space rocks by 10s. While collecting space rocks for NASA, Ramone has time to show Peg, Cat, Richard and Pig how to count by 10s to 100.

Learn to Count to Seven by Making a Duck Necklace

Number sentences are used to introduce young children to basic math concepts. This Family Math activity gives us a fun way to solve math sentences by counting (and quacking) the feathers onto a duck mask that is used as a necklace.

Teaching Your Five-Year-Old Numbers and Counting

By 5 years old, a child can often count up to 20 and beyond, and they'll start to apply this knowledge every week at school. At home, you can continue to look for simple opportunities to extend their understanding of numbers and counting in everyday activities and by playing simple math games.

Family Math

Early math skills can unlock powerful opportunities for children. So with PBS SoCal's Family Math initiative, we’re reaching out to families — particularly parents and caregivers — and offering insights, tools, and support so that they can confidently, joyfully, and authentically explore math with children aged 2 to 5.

Home Activity Counting Around the House

The purpose of this activity is to help your child explore numbers and counting, an important step toward learning how
to add and subtract.

To view or download this week's educational broadcast schedules for KCET, PBS SoCal and KLCS, visit our At-Home Learning page.

As students adjust to new learning methods at home, remember that this is also a great opportunity to spend quality time with your child. Here are some tips for parents on balancing their children's screen time with other fun and educational activities.

How I Talk to My Teen About What is Happening in Our Country

Don't be afraid to talk to your children. This is the perfect time to talk about the beliefs you hold to be good and to encourage your children to be brave in the face of adversity.
