Craig Deutsche

As a volunteer in the Carrizo Plain National Monument, Craig Deutsche became fascinated with the history of the area and together with another colleague undertook an extensive oral history project with former residents. In a former life he was a high school teacher, a distance runner, and a desert conservation advocate. He has backpacked and hiked in Imperial County for a number of years and is the author of “Another Place and Time: Voices from the Carrisa Plains,” a book on history of the Carrizo Plain, and is currently editor of the Desert Report, a magazine dealing with conservation issues in the California deserts.
