Tony Brown

Tony Brown is the Executive Director of Heart of Los Angeles, overseeing over 70 full" and part"time staff, who annually work together with more than 600 volunteers to provide 2,400 underserved youth with exceptional out of school/after school academic, arts and athletics programs that help transform their lives. He began his relationship with HOLA in 1992, creating athletics and enrichment programs after earning a B.A. from Loyola Marymount University's College of Communications. He then moved into the classroom where he taught numerous grade levels at schools around the country and served as the athletic director and as a coach for private schools, while owning and managing several successful camp programs.

After several years of teaching, Tony obtained his Masters Degree from the University of Tennessee in Sports Management/Marketing and went on to work at Fox Sports Radio & Clear Channel in Marketing/Advertising sales for the Lakers, Dodgers,Clippers, Angels and UCLA. There he created nearly $1 million dollars in new business sales. In 2003, he returned to HOLA as the Director of Development and he moved into the Executive Director position in 2007.

Tony, a recent Stanford University Graduate School of Business, Center for Social Innovation Fellow, serves on the University of Tennessee's College of Education, Health and Human Sciences Dean's Board of Advisors. For several years, he also served on Pepperdine University's American Humanics Scholars Board. In 2010, Tony was awarded LMU's Distinguished Alumni Award for his service in the community. Last year, he was awarded the "Local Hero" award by Bank of America for keeping kids away from gangs and off the streets and he was also recognized by KTLA as a Hometown Hero for his service to at-risk and underserved youth. Most recently, he received the Leadership Excellence Award at the Los Angeles Business Journal's 2012 Nonprofit & Corporate Citizenship Awards ceremony.
