Kern County Voters Approve Medical Marijuana Dispensary Limits

Three vacancies were filled for the Board of Supervisors and a marijuana measure requiring dispensaries to be at least a one mile distance from schools, daycare centers, parks, and churches passed in Kern County on Tuesday.

Measure G found considerable support with close to 69 percent of votes. It means marijuana dispensaries will be heavily limited. Here's more from The Bakersfield Californian:

The initiative will practically eliminate nearly every existing shop that distributes cannabis under California laws that permit the cultivation and possession of the plant for medical purposes. Kern County supervisors placed the measure on the ballot after they tried, unsuccessfully, to approve a complete ban on storefront operations.

Support for Measure G is largely seen as a backlash to an increase in medical marijuana dispensaries in the county.

Opponents of the initiative argued the measure was a scam and a property grab attempt by the county's supervisors.
