Avenue 50 Studio

Walk into Avenue 50 Studio in Highland Park and you will learn why this organization is more than an art gallery. Operating for more than eight years and hosting more than 80 shows, this arts service organization, grounded in Latino culture, features artists and poets whose work may not be represented in mainstream galleries.

It serves as a community hub of activities that engage and inform multicultural understanding through shows and workshops that reflect the diverse demographics of Northeast L.A. Avenue 50's monthly shows range from art exhibits such as Holy Nuptials: A Survery of Artwork Based on the Theme of Marriage to poetry workshops like Mujerismo: An Afternoon Of Strong Latina Poets.

After visiting Avenue 50 Studios, grab a fish taco and Horchata from Chico's Mexican Restaurant down the street and head over to the Cactus Gallery for more artwork from local Los Angeles artists. Departures partnered with Avenue 50 in the production of Painting the Walls - a series chronicling the rise of Chicano/Chicana art collectives in Highland Park.
