Long Beach Bike Paths

These easy bike paths for kids and adults take you around the mouth of the Long Beach harbor where the Los Angeles River drains into the Pacific. These paths are also convenient for skateboarding, rollerblading, running and walking.

STARTING POINT

From Golden Park, follow the Oceanside Trail leading to the mouth of the river.

ALTERNATIVE ENDING POINT

The extension takes you across the harbor to S. Harbor Scenic Drive leading to the Queen Mary.

DIRECTIONS TO THE START

TRANSIT: Take the Metro Blue Line to Long Beach. Exit at Convention Center/Downtown.

CAR: Take the 710 Freeway south to Long Beach. Follow the signs to Downtown/Aquarium. Merge onto Shoreline Drive. Take the ramp to Golden Shore Street. Park in any one of the metered lots.

RESTROOMS

Best options are at Queen Mary or Aquarium of the Pacific.

Palm Beach Park

This little park overlooks the mud-flats at the estuary where the shorebirds gather. Metered parking is available.

Rainbow Lagoon Park

This park is designed in a traditional Japanese style with two connected islands and surrounding park with high arched "rainbow bridges."

Shoreline Aquatic Park

Just beyond the spot where the L.A. River widens into the harbor, there is a lighthouse on a grassy hill, plus lots of meandering paths amid great vistas of the marina and surrounding area. Take a stroll starting at the Aquarium of the Pacific, go to the water, take a right and head along the water's edge. Curve around the beachfront areas, aiming for the lighthouse. Take the path that spirals up the grassy hill to the lighthouse.
