Southwest Museum Gold Line Station

THE SOUTHWEST MUSEUM GOLDLINE STATION feature works by artists Teddy Sandoval and Paul Polubinskas. From the platform, gaze up and take note of the three tile-covered winged statues that grace the top of the station columns. After disembarking at this stop, it is a short walk to the Southwest Museum, the Casa de Adobe, or Sycamore Grove Park.

TRANSIT: The Gold Line runs through East LA, Downtown Los Angeles, Highland Park, and Pasadena. Southwest Museum is four stations north of Downtown's Union Station.

Southwest Museum of the American Indian
Built by Charles Lummis in 1914, this museum is the oldest in Los Angeles and houses one of the largest collections of Native American artifacts. Unfortunately, the museum is currently closed, but one can make an appointment to conduct research at the Braun Research Library.

Casa de Adobe
Modeled after the Rancho Guajome, Casa de Adobe was built by the Hispanic Society of California in 1917 and donated to the Southwest Museum in 1925.

Haramoknga Mural at Glenmary Archway
"Haramoknga - Place Where People Gather" is a new exciting mural at Highland Park's historic Glen-Mary Archway. It was created by Pola Lopez, Heriberto Luna, and a team of 15 youth artists.

Hiner House and Sousa Nook
Dr. Edwin C. Hiner, bandmaster for three decades, built this home in 1892. He added a music studio and rehearsal space adjacent to his home in 1928, naming it the "Sousa Nook," after his dear friend John Philip Sousa.

Sycamore Terrace Tour
This stretch of Sycamore Terrace has seven houses in the Craftsman bungalow style. These homes were residences for professors at Occidental College (earning the nickname "Faculty Row") and it exemplified the Arts and Crafts Movement that occurred at the turn of the century. In order to protect the homes on Sycamore Terrace, the Historic Preservation Overlay Zone was established in Highland Park.

Sycamore Grove Park
As one of the oldest parks in Los Angeles, the 15-acre Sycamore Grove Park offers the perfect setting for relaxation and recreation on the banks of the Arroyo Seco. The park is home to many Sycamore trees, children's play areas, and the historic Sousa-Hiner Bandshell.

Ernest E. Debs Park
The park is 282 acres and is named after the Los Angeles County Supervisor, Ernest E. Debs. It has hiking trails, a beautiful pond, and the Audubon Center, which provides environmental education and programming for children and families.

Kite Hill
Kite Hill at Mt. Washington provides a beautiful view of Downtown Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley. You can drive up the hill if you would like - the hike is fairly strenuous otherwise!
