How should we compensate the wrongfully imprisoned?
In 2015, 149 Americans were exonerated of wrongful convictions. On average, they each spent over 14 years in prison before facing the challenge of rebuilding their lives. Some states offer exonerees scholarships and counseling, while other states offer no financial support. In California exonerees who make it through the legal red tape receive $140 for each day spent in prison.
