How should we decide the value of art?
Art and artworks occupy a wide range of cultural spaces. From unlawful murals to corporate monuments to metaphysical ruminations, art can be the unshared practice of a solitary creator, a community performance, or a 2x2 canvas of a painter who’s been dead for centuries. The value, monetary or otherwise, that we ascribe to art is as wide-ranging as art practice itself. Even a specific artwork can skyrocket in price with collections and critics behind the artist at the right time.
