As the ARBOR study continues to be scrutinized by the public, more river-related events have popped up, perhaps in an effort to open more eyes to this historic waterway. A public presentation on the ARBOR Study will be held tonight, Thursday, 5:30 p.m. at the L.A. River Center and Gardens.

Here are a few other river-related events to watch out for this weekend:

Found L.A. Festival of Neighborhoods: Locally-Guided Tours on the Los Angeles River, Sunday, October 20, various times

Connect with locals living along the Los Angeles River with tours arranged by L.A. Commons, a non-profit that builds communities by sharing neighborhood stories. "The river is an attraction," says Karen Mack, founder and Executive Director of L.A. Commons, "And it's huge. It touches everybody in some way."

As if to prove the fact, L.A. Commons has arranged free guided tours that meander all along the river's 51-mile route, and even a little beyond. The theme this year for their third annual Festival of Neighborhoods is "The River Of Your Imagination," and includes tours of San Fernando Valley's half-mile long Great Wall of Los Angeles mural on the L.A. River, a river tour led by Councilmember Tom Labonge, and the Ballona Wetlands, one of the Los Angeles River's historic outlets. "The L.A. River is on the mind of some people in some quarters of Los Angeles, but for the vast majority it still is an abstract thing," says Mack.

The free tours are scheduled for various times on October 20. It's possible to attend more than one on a given day; in fact, Mack encourages it. Locations include Kruegermann Pickles in Elysian Valley, Judson Studios, makers of stained glass; Amir's Garden, a volunteer-maintained ornamental garden in Griffith Park, and Stonehurst, a community of homes made out of native river rock. The full list of events can be found here.

Urban garden party, Sunday, October 20, 4 p.m.

This Sunday is the Los Angeles River Revitalization Corporation's annual garden party fundraiser, "Let's Talk River." Mingle with makers, Nomad Gallery, RAC Design Build, and Golden Road Brewery, among others. Listen to a few government champions U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer and Mayor Eric Garcetti. Food and drinks will be available at this family-friendly affair.

Television production by the river, Saturday, October 19, 3 to 5 p.m.

In celebration of CBS Studio Center lot's 50th anniversary, historians Marc Wanamaker and Mary Mallory will give a presentation discussing television production on the lot, which sits by the Los Angeles River in Studio City.

What is now the CBS Studio City was formerly the Mack Sennett Studio, and then the Republic Pictures' lot. The event includes surprise guests, screenings of popular television shows of the era, and a reception once the talks have finished.

Solastalgia: Naming the Grief of Climate Change

The word "solastalgia" aims to capture the loss and grief tied to climate change. But these emotions are experienced differently across cultures.
