Esperanza: Celebrate Hispanic Heritage and Hope

Southern California has a strong Hispanic history — dating back to 1781 when missionaries from Spain founded "El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles" ("The Town of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels"), which was later ruled by a newly independent Mexico, and then ceded to the United States.

Hispanic Heritage Month is observed nationally from September 15 to October 15 by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of those whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

PBS SoCal and KCET invite everyone to celebrate and honor the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latino Americans with a month-long line up of exclusive programs and digital content.
