Cocktail Recipe: Treuse

Treuse | Terrazza

While most of us are back indoors again, this herbaceous and floral cocktail is like a stroll through a lavender field on a summer's day, courtesy of Terrazza.

You can find lavender syrup at a specialty drinks shop or make your own by soaking dried lavender in simple syrup for 3-5 days. If you're wondering about the chartreuse, the green, herbaceous French liqueur made of macerated plants, it won't be so easy to make yourself: it's distilled by Carthusian monks in France and based on a 400-year-old secret recipe. Only two monks will ever know the formulation at a given time as it gets passed on through the ages.

Treuse
Makes one cocktail

1.5 ounces tequila
.5 ounce fresh lemon juice
.5 ounce lavender syrup
.5 ounce green chartreuse

Place all ingredients in a bar shaker with 4 large ice cubes and shake vigorously for a minute. Strain chilled ingredients into a chilled stemmed martini glass and serve with a twisted orange peel as garnish.
