This weekend you'll get your fill of cheese, farmer's markets, bacteria-ridden beverages and food truck-ish meals. Just a run-of-the-mill weekend in L.A.
Glory to the high heavens, the Grilled Cheese Invitational is back! The 10th year of the event takes place on Saturday at the Rose Bowl, and features a wide array of amateur sandwich artists and professional chefs, all competing for the love of the cheese-devouring public. This year's racily-named categories include "Love, American Style," "The Missionary Position," "The Kama Sutra," and "The Honey Pot."
Time to throw another farmers' market onto the ol' farmers' market pile: A new one is opening this Saturday in the parking lot at The Autry in Griffith Park. Your usual fresh produce, flowers, hot food and organic what-nots and knick-knacks will be on full display. Members at The Autry get a 10% discount when they show their card at the vendor's booths. The Autry Cafe will also be open, with live music and games like bocce ball and ping pong available.
Heads up, hippies! That strange, yeasty and bacteria-ridden fermented tea that's all the rage in, what, drum circles and mushroom trips(?) gets the workshop treatment on Saturday with Kombucha Kamp at Crashspace in Culver City. Workshop-goers will be treated to an examination of what, exactly, the health properties of Kombucha are, samples, and lessens on how to brew in the comfort of their own homes.
From Thursday through Saturday, Roy Choi of Kogi BBQ fame is opening up a pop-up restaurant in the MOCA downtown. It's all part of the Transmission LA event, a multigenre art exhibition curated by Mike D from The Beastie Boys. While the menu has yet to be revealed, expect all your Kogi favorites. Admission to the event is free, but you're going to need some spending cash if you want to dine.
