10 Ways to Celebrate 'Grab Some Nuts' Day
This does seem like a weird name for a food holiday, yes. But here are some great recipes with nuts!
Sichuan Peppercorn Peanuts: Sichuan peppercorns aren't spicy in the traditional sense. They do jump on your tongue in a somewhat startling way, though -- it's definitely something worth checking out, and this snack is the perfect vehicle for them.
Fig-Gorgonzola-Walnut Tart: This vegetarian dish is full of the good fats, with plenty of olive oil along with the walnuts.
Peanut Butter Banana Cream Pie: Peanut butter, which has been around for as long as there have been humans (though only recently sold in jars rather than strictly homemade), is reportedly always in 90% of North American homes.
Macadamia Duck with Vegetables: Celebrity chef Jonathan Waxman created this rich, Asian-inspired dish.
Olive Oil Pancakes with Walnuts and Pomegranates: Chef José Andrés has taken a meal we know and love and fancied it up a bit with olive oil and replaced the traditional maple syrup and fruit with arguably more elegant honey, walnuts and pomegranate arils.
Green Olive-Walnut-Pomegranate Salad: This is hearty enough to be a meal on its own, or, you can add some brown rice or quinoa to the mix to make it even more substantial.
Molasses Granola with Walnuts: This recipe for granola uses a good number of superfoods as ingredients: two types of flax, nuts and quinoa. And there's no white sugar in the mix; all the sweetness comes from maple syrup and molasses.
Banana Bread with Walnuts: This banana bread they've developed is one such example: there's microwaving and straining and reducing involved in what is usually a very simple bread recipe. But all that adds up to a really intense banana flavor, making this recipe well worth the effort.
Cashew Chicken Curry: This cashew chicken curry from food blogger Jennifer Hill uses two sources of protein (meat and nuts!) for a rich, filling flavor.
Strawberry-Cashew-Kale Salad: This hearty and nutritious kale salad features tropical flavors, including creamy cashews, toasted coconut, and a zippy lime-poppy seed vinaigrette. And it's vegan!
