October is National Dessert Month: it may be the season for trick-or-treating, but that doesn't mean you have to limit yourself to bargain bags of Snickers and caramel apples. L.A. is home to some fantastic desserts, from refined post-dinner delicacies made with a blowtorch to a simple chocolate chip cookie, perfectly crafted. Here are some of our favorite sweets around town -- what are yours?

Lions and Tigers and Cameras! How the Movies Gave Los Angeles a Zoo

The early days of the movies in Los Angeles inadvertently allowed visitors to experience the largest collection of animals in the western United States.
