Support Provided By

L.A.'s infamous June gloom has finally burned off, and we think there's no better way to beat the heat than with some ice cream. Of course Angelenos have mastered the art of ice cream -- in a city where it's always the season for a frozen treat, good froyo, gelato, and ice cream are essential. In honor of National Ice Cream Day, here's a gallery of some of the best L.A. has to offer.

Lions and Tigers and Cameras! How the Movies Gave Los Angeles a Zoo

The early days of the movies in Los Angeles inadvertently allowed visitors to experience the largest collection of animals in the western United States. When animals weren't appearing in a movie, they were rented out to other film companies, performed for studio visitors, or in the case of filmmaker William Selig's collection — an opportunity to create one of Los Angeles' first zoos.
