We're excited to announce that our Highland Park installment of Departures was awarded the prestigious Greening the Arroyo Award as part of the Arroyo Verde Awards by the Arroyo Seco Foundation for the "outstanding contribution to enhance and preserve the history and cultures of the Arroyo Seco region.KCET press release:
KCET Departures will be honored by the Arroyo Seco Foundation and the Council of Arroyo Seco Organizations (CASO) on December 7, 2011 for its valued contribution in relaying the untold stories of an area that has gone through dramatic cultural and environmental shifts since its inception, and making them available to a wider audience. Since its debut in 2009, Departures has served as a central nexus for sharing, commenting, collaborating, and finding ways for residents to be involved in their communities. Departures fosters relationships between cultures offline and on by engaging community residents, non-profit organizations, schools and students in the creation and procurement of relevant and relatable content for the series. "We are honored that Departures is being recognized for its efforts in partnering and working with local communities to preserve, archive and share the histories and personal stories of this unique neighborhood," said Juan Devis, executive producer of Departures. The Greening the Arroyo Award is just one of several awards Departures has won, including the international Japan Foundation President's Prize, as well as honors at the National Arts Journalism Summit, the Summit Creative Awards and the ADDY Creative Show Award to name a few.
