50th Anniversary

Fifty years. Hundreds of programs. Thousands of episodes. Countless stories. A full half century of traversing the cultural and technological landscape has passed, and KCET celebrates its golden anniversary with a television special, an interactive digital site, events, promotions, and story-gathering.

But our story continues -- the frontiers, unknown, the possibilities, endless. The history of KCET's next 50 years has just begun. Within the next few months, look forward to more quality programming, from new music and arts shows, to captivating international programs, to a new animated children's science series. We will also continue to innovate through exclusive online content, and exclusive content initially developed online and later broadcast on television.

Our story began as an "Educational TV" station in a rented Hollywood studio, moved on to a larger studio lot, played a key role in the success of a national public television network, achieved independence, found a new, state-of-the-art home in Burbank, and partnered with a San Francisco-based, nationally-broadcast satellite TV network, to bring you programming from as far as across the globe, and as close as your own neighborhood. As our journey continues, and as new chapters of our history get written, we will continue to Inspire A Better State -- the state of California, the state of media, our state of being, and our state of mind.
