2017 Fall KCET Cinema Series Schedule [CLOSED]
The 2017 Fall KCET Cinema Series is back at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica. The series previews new Hollywood and independent films prior to their theatrical release. Hosted by nationally recognized film expert Pete Hammond, each film is followed by a lively Q&A with the talent or filmmaker.
This series is generously sponsored by Deadline.
The screenings are held on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm and all seats are general admission. The dates for the fall series are August 15, 22, 29, September 5, 12, 19, 26, October 3.

Fall Schedule:
August 15- Logan Lucky
A comedy from Academy Award-winning director Steven Soderbergh (Traffic and Ocean's Eleven). The film stars Channing Tatum as Jimmy Logan a member of a family whose luck is more than bad. Jimmy convinces the family they need to turn fate around and plans to steal $14 million from the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The film co-stars Daniel Craig, Seth MacFarlane, Katie Holmes and Hilary Swank.

August 22 - Home Again
Hallie Myers-Shyer makes her directorial debut with this romantic comedy starring Reese Witherspoon as the protagonist Alice Kinney a recently separated mother of two who on her 40th birthday makes a life changing decision when she invites three aspiring young filmmakers who need a place to live to move in with her. As a result of her actions unexpected results ensue.

August 29 - Rebel in the Rye
The film is based on the book J. D. Salinger: A Life about one of America’s most important writers. The storyline begins with the youthful Salinger and follows him through World War II, his romances, and the publication of his debut novel The Catcher in the Rye. The film stars Nicholas Hoult as Salinger and the cast includes Zoey Deutch, Kevin Spacey and Sarah Paulson. The film had its world premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.

September 5 - Fire Chasers
A searing and intense documentary that takes viewers into the heart of California’s devastating recent wildfires alongside the brave men and women of Cal Fire and the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Fire Chasers is a Netflix Original Documentary produced by Appian Way and Original Productions.

September 12- Battle of the Sexes
In the wake of the sexual revolution and the rise of the women’s movement, the 1973 tennis match between women’s world champion Billie Jean King (Emma Stone) and ex-men’s-champ and serial hustler Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell) was billed as the Battle of the Sexes and became one of the most watched televised sports events of all time, reaching 90 million viewers around the world. As the rivalry between King and Riggs kicked into high gear, off-court each was fighting more personal and complex battles.

September 19- Victoria and Abdul
The extraordinary true and unlikely friendship of Queen Victoria and her Indian servant Abdul Karim based on the book by Shrabani Basu. The film stars Academy Award winner Judi Dench and co-stars Ali Fazal, Eddie Izzard, Adeel Akhtar and Michael Gambon. The film is directed by Stephen Frears (Dangerous Liaisons, The Queen, My Beautiful Laundrette, and Florence Foster Jenkins).

September 26- Thank You For Your Service
The plot follows three American soldiers returning from Iraq as they attempt to transition back into civilian life and cope with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The film is written and directed by Jason Hall and is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by David Finkel.

October 3- The Mountain Between Us
Adapted for the big screen from the best-selling novel by Charles Martin, it is the harrowing story of a surgeon (Idris Elba) and a photojournalist (Kate Winslet) who after the cancellation of their flight due to inclement weather they both decide to board a charter plane that crashes in mid-flight. They miraculously survive with injuries but soon become lost in the High Uintas Wilderness in extreme weather conditions.
