2018 Spring KCET Cinema Series Schedule

Don’t miss the 2018 Spring KCET Cinema Series at the ArcLight Cinemas in Sherman Oaks! The series previews the most anticipated new films prior to their theatrical release. Hosted by nationally recognized film expert Pete Hammond, each film is followed by a lively Q&A with the talent or filmmaker.

Film screenings are held on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM. The dates for the spring series are February 20, 27, March 6, 13, 20, 27, April 3, and 10.

If you would still like to attend this series, prorated series passes are available at the ArcLight Cinemas on Tuesdays prior to the screening. Limited walk-up admissions are available on the night of each screening. You may also call 747-201-5402, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., to reserve an advanced pass to the screening.

February 20 - Submission

Submission Trailer #1 (2018) | Movieclips Indie

From director Richard Levine, the film is based on Francine Prose’s best-selling novel Blue Angel and stars Stanley Tucci as a professor and novelist who becomes obsessed with an ambitious and talented student. The film addresses the timely topic about gender politics, political correctness, and sexual harassment on college campuses.

February 27 - Augie

Augie Nieto was known as the Steve Jobs of the fitness industry and popularized the LifeCycle in gyms across the country as the founder of Life Fitness. In 2005 at the age of 47 he was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The documentary is about his journey to deal with this life changing disease with his wife Lynne alongside, as they race to find a cure in the fight to save his own life and the lives of millions. Augie’s will to live and his continued drive to help find a cure for ALS have helped raise over $60 million for the scientific research for ALS through his Augie’s Quest Foundation.

March 6 - The Leisure Seeker

The film is directed by multi-award winning Italian director Paolo Virzě, and stars Academy Award-winner® Helen Mirren and two-time Golden Globe- winner® Donald Sutherland as a runaway couple on an unforgettable journey in the faithful old RV they call the Leisure Seeker. The couple travels from Boston to The Ernest Hemingway Home in Key West, recapturing their passion for life and their love for each other on a road trip that provides revelation and surprise right up to the very end.

MARCH 13 - OUTSIDE IN

After two decades of incarceration an ex-con (Jay Duplass) struggles to adjust to his new found freedom and life back in his hometown.  He soon finds solace with his former high school teacher (Edie Falco) and they form an intense and constructive bond.  The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Hardened by years in foster care, a teenage girl from Brooklyn's Brownsville neighborhood decides that joining the all-boys’ wrestling team is the only way back to her estranged father. The film stars Elvire Emanuelle, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Colman Domingo, Jharrel Jerome and Jared Kemp. From producers Chanelle Elaine, Veronica Nickel and Bryan Unkeless, and it is the first feature film for writer/director Olivia Newman.

MARCH 27 - CHAPPAQUIDDICK

In the summer of 1969 Senator Ted Kennedy is in a serious auto accident that causes his car to plunge off of a bridge on Massachusetts' Chappaquiddick Island. The accident results in the death of passenger Mary Jo Kopechne, a 28-year-old campaign strategist who worked for the senator. Kennedy managed to escape the sinking car, but it took the Kennedy family 10 hours to report the accident which led to a formal inquest into the mysterious circumstances of the accident.

APRIL 3 - BEIRUT

A spy thriller set in Beirut, Lebanon in the 1980’s during the civil war. Mason Skiles (Jon Hamm), former U.S. diplomat returns to service on a CIA mission to save a colleague from the group responsible for the death of his family. It premiered at the 2018 Sundance Festival.

APRIL 10 - KODACHROME

A father and son road-trip that follows an acclaimed photojournalist (Ed Harris) who has a terminal illness, his assertive young nurse (Elizabeth Olsen), along with his estranged self-absorbed record executive son (Jason Sudeikis). Together they hit the road from New York to Kansas on a mission to reach the only remaining photo lab in the country that processes the beloved Kodachrome film before it closes its doors permanently.
