2019 Winter KCET Cinema Series Schedule
Don't miss the upcoming 2019 Winter KCET Cinema Series which screens the best of Hollywood, independent and top festival films prior to their release in theaters.
Devoted moviegoers have the unique opportunity to preview the most anticipated films of the season and hear a lively post-screening Q&A with the on-screen talent and filmmakers.
Film screenings are held at the ArcLight Cinemas in Sherman Oaks on Tuesdays at 7:00 PM. The dates of the eight-week series are October 22, 29, November 5, 12, 19, 26, and December 3, 10.
Registration is closed.
All films and Q&A guests are subject to change without prior notice and some films may have studio security checks.
OCTOBER 22 FORD V FERRARI 20th CENTURY FOX/DISNEY
The dramatic story of how American automotive designer Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and British race car driver Ken Miles (Christian Bale) led a team of eccentric but determined designers and engineers from the Ford Motor Co. to build a race car that could beat the legendary vehicles of Enzo Ferrari (Remo Girone). Battling corporate interference, the laws of physics and their own personal demons, they ultimately produce the Ford GT40 for a showdown in 1966 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France. Directed by James Mangold (Logan, 3:10 to Yuma), the film also stars racing driver Alexander Gurney as his father and international racing legend, Dan Gurney.

OCTOBER 29 THE BANKER APPLE
The true story of two African American entrepreneurs, Bernard Garrett (Anthony Mackie) and Joe Morris (Samuel L. Jackson), who in the 1950s take clever but serious risks circumventing the racial limitations of the era. They recruit a working-class white man, Matt Steiner (Nicholas Hoult), and train him to pose as the head of their business empire while they pose as a janitor and a chauffeur. In time, Garrett and Morris become two of the most successful and wealthiest bankers and real estate owners in the country with Steiner as their front man.

NOVEMBER 5 MARRIAGE STORY NETFLIX
A comedy-drama that premiered at the Venice Film Festival about a stage director (Adam Driver) and an actress (Scarlett Johansson) struggling through a grueling, coast-to-coast divorce that pushes them to their personal and creative extremes. Also stars Alan Alda, Laura Dern, Julie Haggerty, Ray Liotta, and Wallace Shawn, among others.

November 12 THE TWO POPES NETFLIX
The film is based on a play by Oscar nominated writer Anthony McCarten (The Theory of Everything, Darkest Hour), and stars Anthony Hopkins (Pope Benedict) and Jonathan Pryce (Cardinal Bergoglio) in an intimate look at a historic turning point in the Catholic Church.

NOVEMBER 19 A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD SONY PICTURES
A journalist's life is changed when he accepts the assignment to write an article for Esquire Magazine profiling Fred Rogers. The film is based on the real-life friendship between journalist Tom Junod (Matthew Rhys) and the beloved PBS star Fred Rogers, portrayed by Tom Hanks.

NOVEMBER 26 1917
At the height of the First World War, two young British soldiers, Schofield (Captain Fantastic’s George MacKay) and Blake (Game of Thrones’ Dean-Charles Chapman) are given a seemingly impossible mission. In a race against time, they must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers—Blake’s own brother among them.

December 3 BOMBSHELL LIONSGATE
In this powerful true story, several female employees at Fox News take on a toxic male culture and expose sexual harassment, leading to the downfall of media mogul Roger Ailes. Written by Oscar-winning writer Charles Randolph (The Big Short), the drama features an ensemble cast, including Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie, and John Lithgow.

DECEMBER 10 RICHARD JEWELL WARNER BROS. PICTURES
The film is directed by Clint Eastwood and is based on true events, it is the story of what can happen when what is reported as fact obscures the truth. American security guard, Richard Jewell, bravely saved thousands of lives from an exploding bomb at the 1996 Olympics, but is unfairly accused by the press that he was a terrorist. The film stars Sam Rockwell, Kathy Bates, Jon Hamm, Olivia Wilde, and Paul Walter Hauser as Richard Jewell.
