2020 Spring KCET Cinema Series Schedule (CANCELED)

KCET has made the important and appropriate decision to cancel the remaining screenings of the Spring KCET Cinema Series at the ArcLight Cinemas in Sherman Oaks. 

Don't miss the upcoming 2020 Spring KCET Cinema Series which screens the best of Hollywood, independent and top festival films prior to their release in theaters.

Devoted moviegoers have the unique opportunity to preview the most anticipated films of the season and hear a lively post-screening Q&A with the on-screen talent and filmmakers.

Film screenings are held at the ArcLight Cinemas in Sherman Oaks on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. The dates of the eight-week series are February 11, 18, 25, March 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, 2020.

If you would like to attend the 2020 Spring KCET Cinema Series, limited walk-up admissions are available on the night of each screening for $30 per person. You may also call 747-201-5402, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., to reserve an advanced pass to the screening.

All films and Q&A guests are subject to change without prior notice and some films may have studio security checks.

FEBRUARY 11 STANDING UP, FALLING DOWN SHOUT FACTORY

The film follows the life of an unsuccessful stand-up comedian (Ben Schwartz) who, after failing in Los Angeles, retreats home to his unsympathetic family on Long Island. He forms a friendship with an alcoholic dermatologist (Billy Crystal), and soon they give each other the confidence to face the disappointments in their lives.

Q&A immediately following screening with director Matt Ratner, and producers Chris Mangano and John Hermann.

FEBRUARY 18 HOPE GAP ROADSIDE ATTRACTIONS

Annette Bening and Bill Nighy star in director William Nicholson’s drama about an aging British couple coping with an unexpected divorce after 29 years of marriage. The cast includes: Josh O’Connor, Aiysha Hart, Ryan McKen, Steven Pacey, and Nicholas Burns. It premiered at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival.

FEBRUARY 25 BURDEN 101 STUDIOS

Based on the true story of Michael Burden (Garrett Hedlund), who rose to the top rank of Grand Wizard of the South Carolina Ku Klux Klan. When he ultimately decides to walk away from this life, Burden receives the unlikely support of African American religious leader and social activist Reverend David Kennedy (Forest Whitaker) and his new girlfriend. The cast includes Tom Wilkinson, Andrea Riseborough, Tess Harper, Usher, and Crystal Fox. Winner of the Audience Award at Sundance, the film is written and directed by first-time filmmaker Andrew Heckler.

MARCH 3 THE ETRUSCAN SMILE LIGHTYEAR ENTERTAINMENT

Based on the bestselling novel by José Luis Sampedro, the film stars Brian Cox (HBO’s "Succession" and recent Broadway leading man in "The Great Society") as Rory MacNeil, a rugged old Scotsman who reluctantly leaves his beloved isolated Hebridean island and travels to San Francisco to seek medical treatment. Moving in with his estranged son, Rory’s life will be transformed, just when he expects it least, through a newly found love for his baby grandson.

The film is directed by award-winning Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda (Shoplifters, Still Walking), and stars legendary French actors, Catherine Deneuve and Juliette Binoche. Fabienne (Catherine Deneuve) is an aging French movie star who publishes her long awaited memoirs. Her daughter Lumir (Juliette Binoche) returns to Paris from New York with her husband (Ethan Hawke) to commemorate the release of the book, but a long-brewing family conflict between mother and daughter comes to the surface in this emotionally charged family drama.
