'Babyteeth' Is a Tale of Young Love at the Virtual KCET Cinema Series on June 16
Q&A immediately following with director Shannon Murphy and star Eliza Scanlen.
When seriously ill teenager Milla falls madly in love with smalltime drug dealer Moses, it’s her parents’ worst nightmare. But as Milla’s first brush with love brings her a new lust for life. Milla soon shows everyone in her orbit how to live like you have nothing to lose. What might have been a disaster for the Finlay family instead leads to letting go and finding grace in the glorious chaos of life.
Director Shannon Murphy shared her thoughts on the film’s breakout star, “Eliza is an incredible chameleon. Milla is a character that from the moment we meet her is in a constant state of transition, she’s experimenting with who she is and yet stays wise and grounded beyond her years, facing an incredible existential crisis.”
“Babyteeth” joyously explores how good it is not to be dead yet and how far we will go for love. The film stars Eliza Scanlen ("Little Women," "Sharp Objects"), Essie Davis ("Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries," "Game of Thrones") and Ben Mendelsohn ("Rogue One," "Bloodline"). An Australian film by first-time feature filmmaker, Shannon Murphy was nominated for the prestigious Golden Lion Award at the 2019 Venice Film Festival.
The film screens on Tuesday, June 16 at 7 p.m. PDT. Only $10 per viewing link. Limited space available.
