Q&A immediately following with director Jonathan Butterell and stars Max Harwood and Lauren Patel.

In this film adaptation of the popular West End musical, Jamie New (Max Harwood) is a teenager in Northern England who doesn’t quite fit in. He dreams of life on stage — as a drag queen.

Director Jonathan Butterell shared, "It was the courage of Jamie Campbell and the love of his mum Margaret that moved me to want to tell his story. Although it was such a specific story, I found the central theme of a young person wanting to take their place in the world and the unwavering love of a mother watching their child step out, profoundly inspiring and moving and ultimately universal. Then to watch his community, a community similar to the one I had grown up in, create a safe space for Jamie to express his joy, brought me to tears. This was the spark."

Immediately following the screening, Deadline’s chief film critic Pete Hammond, who can also be seen on KCET’s Must See Movies, will moderate a Q&A with director Jonathan Butterell (in his feature directorial debut) and stars Max Harwood and Lauren Patel.

The film screens on Thursday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. PDT. Only $10 per viewing link. Limited space available.
