KCET Cinema Series Screens 'Florence Foster Jenkins' on July 19
The KCET Cinema Series continues its summer season on Tuesday, July, 19 at the historic Aero Theatre in Santa Monica with a showing of "Florence Foster Jenkins." Based on a true story, the film stars Meryl Streep as a New York socialite who longs to sing in public. The catch, however, is that she's not a good singer. Hugh Grant plays Jenkins' husband St. Clair Bayfield and "The Big Bang Theory" star Simon Helberg plays her pianist Cosmé McMoon. "Meryl Streep, who can sing, has to prove that she can't in this movie," says KCET Cinema Series Host Pete Hammond. "It's a lot of fun."
Following the screening, Helberg will be on hand for a Q&A session led by Hammond.
Sponsored by the James and Paula Coburn Foundation and E. Hofert Dailey Trust, the KCET Cinema Series brings audiences advance screenings of anticipated films followed by Q&A sessions with the minds behind the movies. The summer season of the Cinema Series runs at the Aero Theatre through August 2.
